About Us
Amazon Jungle Jewelry is an artisan-based organization committed to fair trade practices, using natural eco-friendly materials, and supporting sustainable development programs in the Amazon Basin of Ecuador. We design and make high-quality handmade jewelry using natural materials grown in the Amazon region of South America, including seeds such as acai, pambil, visola, anamora, tagua, achira, and coconut.
The materials for our products are bought from artisans in Otavalo, Ecuador and handmade by us in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. We are Juan Carlos Rivadeneyra Andy, who is originally from Chichicorumi, a small indigenous community in the jungle region of Ecuador, and has made the long journey from Ecuador to Boston to Chicago and now to Eau Claire. Juan Carlos is the designer of our unique jewelry models. Shanti Freitas is originally from Chicago, Illinois and lived in Ecuador for three years where she met Juan Carlos. Shanti helps to make the jewelry and also coordinates the administrative side of the small business.
A portion of our profits help support Museo Kamak Maki, a small community education and tourism project working to preserve ancestral knowledge of indigenous Kichwa culture and language.
Your purchases help support fair trade practices, community development projects in Ecuador, and a local business!
